We're a small crew of Christchurch electricians who got tired of seeing dead alarms and empty ceiling brackets in every second house — so we made this the job.
This business started as a sideline. We're electricians by trade — switchboards, rewires, the usual — and smoke alarms were the thing we'd fix on the way out the door. "While you're here, can you look at the beeping thing in the hallway?" Sure. Always.
Then we started keeping count. In one stretch of about forty jobs across Christchurch, more than half the homes had a smoke alarm problem: expired units, missing batteries, empty brackets where an alarm used to live, or 1990s ionisation models yellowed to the colour of weak tea. These weren't careless people. They were ordinary families who assumed the alarm on the ceiling worked because it looked like it did.
Somewhere around the fortieth house, the sideline became the point. Smoke alarms are cheap, the installation is quick, and no other hour of electrical work moves the safety needle further. So we built a service around doing this one thing properly — right type, right placement, real testing, honest paperwork — at prices that don't make anyone put it off another year.
A few thousand installs later, that's still the whole pitch.
